Peter
Lee, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation said:
“ We warmly congratulate Wendron FC for their hard work and dedication
in securing this award. Grass roots football is the lifeblood of the game in
this country which is why vital projects such as this now have the benefit of
Foundation cash.”
Local
MP Andrew George, said:
“ Wendron’s success on the field has been more than matched by their
success in securing grants. They are a very active sporting and community club
and any envy they may generate amongst sporting rivals will be overwhelmed by
a strong sense of admiration in what this go-ahead club is doing to encourage
sport amongst youngsters, and the wider community”.
Alan
Watson, Project Co-ordinator for Wendron FC, said:
"It’s taken years of planning and fundraising but we have finally
been rewarded for all our efforts. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all those who helped make it possible, particularly the tremendous support we
had from Kerrier District Council sports development officers, Wendron Parish
Council for their help in the planning application process and funding, Cornwall
County FA for their guidance and LI Winn & Sons for matched funding. Thanks
should also go to all those schools and businesses who have offered their support
throughout the clubs existence and also the many volunteers who helped with fundraising
events."
